The Anglican Diocese of Bunbury, Western Australia joyfully elected Dr Ian Coutts as its 10th Bishop of the Diocese during its Election Synod meeting on the 15th – 16th June 2018, following a period of searching and discernment from around the country.
Ian has been a lecturer with St Mark’s since 2015, teaching the Triune God and Practical Theology at Charles Sturt University’s School of Theology. He is also the RTO trainer and coordinator of our ministry formation program for prospective ordinands.
Ian grew up in the UK and studied theology at St. John’s College, Nottingham and King’s College, London, and was involved in teaching distance students and ordinands part-time. He is an ordained Anglican minister who has served in parishes in Birmingham and the outskirts of London, planted a church and been an ATO in London, Oxford, and Canberra and Goulburn. He is also a qualified social worker with a Bachelor and Masters degree in Sociology/Education and Applied Social Studies, and has particular experience in the fields of child protection and domestic violence. He completed a doctorate on the family from a trinitarian theological perspective.
He is married to Anne, who is a school Principal, with two grown-up daughters and two toddler granddaughters in London. He has also been the General Manager for Church and Mission Engagement at Anglicare (NSW West & South/ACT).Official announcement from Bunbury diocese
