Study online

Designed for flexibility and academic excellence, our programs empower you to study theology, ministry, counselling, and supervision from anywhere. Join a supportive learning community and gain the skills and knowledge needed to serve effectively in today’s church and world.

Distance learning

St Mark’s National Theological Centre’s online education offers a vibrant, deeply connected learning experience that brings world-class theological and ministry formation directly to you—wherever you are. Delivered in partnership with Charles Sturt University and hosted on the intuitive Brightspace platform, our programs combine rigorous academic study with practical, ministry-focused skills, all designed for flexibility and accessibility. Whether you’re exploring foundational Christian doctrines in our Undergraduate Certificate in Theology or pursuing advanced research in our Master of Philosophy and PhD pathways, every course is structured so you can engage with scholarly resources, collaborate with peers in virtual classrooms, and receive one-on-one support from expert faculty.

We understand that life is busy. That’s why St Mark’s blends self-paced study with live webinars, interactive discussion forums, and optional intensive residencies in Canberra. You choose full-time or part-time enrolment, purely online or a blended mix, ensuring you can balance study alongside family, work, or ministry commitments. Our comprehensive student support services—from academic writing workshops and library access to career guidance and wellbeing counselling—ensure you’re never alone on your journey. At St Mark’s, distance is no barrier: you become part of a thriving global community united by a shared passion for thoughtful, transformative Christian leadership.

How often do I need to come to Canberra?

It is entirely up to you:

While you’re always welcome to join us on campus, we fully support students who study from across Australia and internationally. Whether you’re able to attend in person regularly or not at all, we’re committed to working with you, wherever you are.

Many classes are recorded:

You are welcome to join us online or watch the recorded lectures later in your own time.  You are also most welcome to join us on-campus at any time.

Intensive schools and generally optional:

Most of our courses involve intensive school classes. These are on-campus classes that are held for two to four, often consecutive, days per semester/session.  Intensives are usually optional, with the exception of a few subjects may require compulsory attendance.

Combine intensive schools with a short Canberra holiday:

Many students enjoy combining these visits with a Canberra getaway, taking advantage of off-peak travel times and exploring nearby landmarks like the National Gallery, Questacon, and the National Library—all just a short walk from our peaceful, six-hectare campus.

Online learning doesn’t mean learning alone:

You’ll be supported by our dedicated staff, connected to a community of fellow students, and engaged in a study journey that draws you closer to God and others. Distance, in our experience, quickly becomes connection.
