Safety Policy

Our safety policy

1. Purpose

St Mark’s National Theological Centre is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all students, staff, and visitors. This policy outlines our approach to hazard and incident management, ensuring compliance with the standards of the Anglican Diocese of Canberra-Goulburn and fostering a proactive safety culture.

2. Scope

This policy applies to all individuals on St Mark’s premises, including students, faculty, staff, contractors, and visitors.

 3. Definitions

  • Hazard: An object or situation with the potential to cause harm to a person, the environment, or property.

  • Incident: Any unplanned event that results in, or has the potential to result in, injury, illness, damage, or other loss.

4. Policy statement

St Mark’s prioritizes the health and safety of its community. We encourage the prompt reporting of all hazards and incidents, including near-misses, to maintain a safe environment.

5. Reporting procedures

  • Hazards and Incidents: Report any hazards or incidents through the Anglican Diocesan Services’ reporting system:

    • Report an Incident

    • Report a Hazard

  • Abuse and Harassment: If the complaint involves sexual or other harassment or abuse by anyone associated with St Mark’s, or if you suspect the sexual abuse of a child connected to St Mark’s, please contact:

    • Anglican Diocese of Canberra and Goulburn Abuse Hotline: 1800 070 511 (For more information see Safe Ministry Unit.)

    • Director of St Mark’s (if you feel safe to do so)

6. Responsibilities

  • All Community Members: Responsible for reporting hazards and incidents promptly.

  • St Mark’s Administration: Ensures all reports are addressed in accordance with diocesan procedures.

7. Continuous Improvement

St Mark’s is dedicated to the continuous improvement of its safety practices and encourages feedback to enhance our safety environment.
