About St Mark’s

Founded in 1957, St Mark’s is a respected Christian theological community dedicated to the practical application of theological principles in both public and private spheres, while upholding intellectual rigour and striving for academic excellence.

Who we are

Partner in Charles Sturt University, School of Theology

Nationally recognised and academically rigorous—St Mark’s has been a partner in the School of Theology at Charles Sturt University since 1996. Through this association, St Mark’s offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in theology, ministry, supervision, and pastoral counselling.

Our branding – St Mark’s Lion

Our logo depicts the winged lion of St Mark. The winged lion is linked to St. Mark due to a vision he experienced during his travels, wherein an angel appeared to him in the form of a winged lion. In the book of Revelation, the lion is one of the four-winged creatures surrounding the throne of God, symbolizing the four evangelists—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John.  St. Mark’s lion is often portrayed holding a book inscribed with “Pax tibi Marce, evangelista meus”—”Peace be with you, Mark, my evangelist”.

Anglican formation and training

St. Mark’s is a prominent institution dedicated to the education and training of priests and deacons for the Anglican Church. The Anglican Church prepares candidates for ordained ministry through a comprehensive process that involves theological education, ministry formation, and spiritual development. This typically occurs over a three-year program at institutions such as St. Mark’s NTC, supplemented by supervised field placements within parishes.

Freedom to explore

Some students may have questions they feel uncomfortable asking due to concerns about judgment, reprisal, or misunderstanding. We encourage students to explore and ask honest questions as they study theological topics. Afterall, the study of theology aims to understand mysteries and embrace unknowns. Theology is described as “faith seeking understanding in the presence of others.” If you have questions and seek a supportive community to explore them, St Mark’s may be the right fit for you.

Flexible study options

St Mark’s, in collaboration with Charles Sturt University, is a leading institution in Australia for offering online theological and ministry studies. Our courses are predominantly delivered online, providing students with a flexible learning environment to accommodate their busy schedules. Furthermore, many of our programs incorporate face-to-face learning opportunities, either through a blended format of classroom and online instruction or through intensive short-term sessions.
