Admission & Credit

Applicants should hold:

  • a Bachelors (Honours) with Class 1 or Class 2 Division 1 from Charles Sturt University;

OR

  • a relevant coursework Master's degree with evidence of research equivalent to a Charles Sturt University 16 point subject or greater, at a Distinction level or above;

OR

  • an award from another accredited tertiary institution, accepted by the University as equivalent to one of the above awards,

AND/OR

  • have demonstrated in study or professional performance potential to undertake research at a Master degree level.

Intending applicants should contact the Sub-Dean Graduate Studies in the Faculty to discuss the proposal before applying for admission to the Master of Philosophy.


Admission to candidature is subject to approval by the University

Course Structure

Candidates complete a major research project or portfolio in an area within the Arts and Education disciplines. As such candidates should contact the Sub-Dean Graduate Studies to discuss possible projects. In consultation with the Sub-Dean and their Principal Supervisor, each candidate will be allocated a specific research subject code and will enrol in that subject for the period of their candidature:

  • ASH601 – Masters Research (Arts and Education) PT (64cp)
  • ASH602 – Masters Research (Arts and Education) FT (64cp)
  • THL611 – Masters Research (Theology) PT (64cp)
  • THL612 – Masters Research (Theology) FT (64cp)

Enrolment Pattern

Candidates will be enrolled in a single subject for the duration of their degree. The subject code will be determined according to the School in which students are enrolled within the Faculty of Science and aligned to the mode of study.

Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of the scholarly debate relevant to the chosen field of research, including the understanding of recent developments in the field
  2. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of research principles and methods applicable to their discipline
  3. Exhibit cognitive skills to demonstrate mastery of theoretical knowledge and to reflect critically on theory and its application.
  4. Demonstrate cognitive, technical and creative skills to investigate, analyse and synthesise complex information, problems, concepts and theories and to apply established theories to their chosen field of research
  5. Demonstrate cognitive, technical and creative skills to generate and evaluate complex ideas and concepts at an abstract level in their chosen field of research
  6. Demonstrate cognitive and technical skills to design, use and evaluate research and research methods be able to demonstrate communication and technical skills to present a coherent and sustained argument and to disseminate research results to specialist and non-specialist audiences
  7. Demonstrate technical and communication skills to design, evaluate, implement, analyse, theorise and disseminate research that makes a constructive contribution to knowledge in the chosen field of research
  8. Demonstrate advanced knowledge and skills to plan and execute a substantial piece of research
