Research degree supervision
At St Mark’s National Theological Centre, Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates benefit from dedicated, expert supervision that fosters both academic excellence and spiritual depth. As part of Charles Sturt University’s School of Theology, St Mark’s offers supervision from highly qualified and Charles Sturt-accredited scholars who are leaders in their fields and grounded in the Christian tradition. Each student is supported by a supervisory team—typically comprising a principal supervisor based at St Mark’s and one or more co-supervisors—ensuring a breadth of insight and guidance. Our approach is student-centred and collaborative, with regular meetings, milestone reviews, and access to a vibrant research culture. Candidates are encouraged to engage in seminars, academic events, and interdisciplinary dialogue, and are supported throughout their journey by a community committed to thoughtful, faithful, and transformative theological research.

How to find a principal supervisor
Finding the right principal supervisor is a key step in your HDR journey. At St Mark’s, we encourage prospective candidates to explore our academic staff profiles to identify a potential supervisor whose research interests align with their own. How to find co-supervisors
Co-supervisors are selected based on the specific needs of your research project and the expertise required to support it. After identifying a principal supervisor, you can work together to determine whether additional supervision is needed and who might best complement your project. Co-supervisors may be drawn from other academic staff at St Mark’s, from Charles Sturt University, or even from external institutions with Charles Sturt University approval. Your supervisory team will be finalised as part of the application and candidature confirmation process, ensuring the right combination of guidance and expertise for your research.
