Chaplains show up where life gets real — in hospitals, prisons, schools, aged care facilities, and workplaces. But what does it actually take to do that work well, and what holds it together theologically?
Christian Chaplaincy in Context is an upcoming intensive at St Mark's National Theological Centre designed for those already working in chaplaincy or sensing a call in that direction. It builds a solid theological framework for the chaplain's role while engaging seriously with the practical and personal realities of the work — the institutional cultures you navigate, the professional and ethical challenges you face, and the pastoral care you're called to offer across a wide range of contexts.
And for those already in ministry or professional practice, there's dedicated space for critical reflection on your own experience — integrating theological thinking with what you're actually living.
Whether you're a chaplain looking to deepen your practice or someone exploring this ministry for the first time, this intensive will give you both the grounding and the tools to serve with greater confidence and care.
The subject will be taught by guest lecturer Dr Neil Percival OAM from 11–14 January 2027.
